Train your AI chatbot
Last updated 22 July 2026

Solstral's AI chatbot answers your visitors from your content — never the open internet. You train it in three places, all under Chat in the sidebar — the Bots, Knowledge and FAQ tabs sit alongside Widgets.
1. Build the knowledge base
On the Knowledge tab, write articles (title + body) and set them Published to make them answerable. Each article is automatically split into chunks and embedded so the bot can retrieve the right passage for a question. Toggle Show in widget to also surface an article in the widget's Help tab; leave it off for internal-only knowledge. You can also import from your website — paste a URL and we crawl same-site pages into published articles — or sync a Notion database via the API.
2. Add curated FAQs
On the FAQ tab, add exact question/answer pairs. These are matched before the model, so a hit answers instantly and for free. Add extra phrasings as variants to widen matching.
3. Configure the bot
On the Bots tab, create a bot and set its persona (its tone and guardrails), a greeting, a confidence floor (below which it hands off), and whether it should hand off to a human when unsure.
4. Turn it on for a widget
Open your chat widget on the Chat page, attach the bot, and enable bot answering. From then on the bot answers new conversations: it tries FAQs, then retrieves from your knowledge base and answers in your persona, and hands off to whoever's online when it isn't confident. The moment an agent replies, the bot steps aside.
