12 marketing automation workflows worth stealing

· Ian Bensley

Copy-ready automation ideas — welcome series, lead scoring, re-engagement, abandoned form, post-sale onboarding and more — with the triggers and exits to use.

The blank canvas is the hardest part of any flow builder. Here are twelve workflows that earn their keep, with the trigger and the exit condition that keep each one safe.

Acquisition

  1. Welcome series. Trigger: joins a list. Exit: replies or books a call.
  2. Lead magnet delivery. Trigger: form submitted. Deliver the asset, then nurture.
  3. Abandoned form. Trigger: started but didn't finish. One gentle nudge.
  4. Lead scoring. Increment a score on opens, clicks and page visits; notify sales past a threshold. (See lead scoring without the guesswork.)

Conversion

  1. Demo no-show. Trigger: meeting missed. Re-offer a time.
  2. Trial-to-paid. Milestone emails timed to the trial clock.
  3. Round-robin assignment. Rotate new leads across reps fairly.
  4. Stale-deal nudge. Trigger: no activity in 14 days. Ping the owner.

Retention

  1. Onboarding. Trigger: deal won. Walk the customer through first value.
  2. Re-engagement. Trigger: no opens in 90 days. Win back or sunset.
  3. Renewal reminder. Fire on a date field, business days only.
  4. NPS follow-up. Route detractors to a human, promoters to a review request.

The rule that makes all twelve safe

Every one of these should have a goal that exits people the moment they convert, and every one should be simulated on a real record before it goes live. Automation without an exit is just a way to annoy your best customers.
