Smart lists: segment by engagement, and email-field priority
Last updated 21 July 2026
Dynamic lists (smart lists) build their membership live from conditions — and those conditions now include real campaign engagement.
Engagement conditions
In a dynamic list's filters, or a campaign's Refine further step, pick from:
- Last emailed / opened / clicked dates — "is within the last 30 days", "is more than 90 days ago", or "is empty" for never.
- Campaigns received / opened / clicked — "contains" or "does not contain" a specific campaign, e.g. everyone who has not opened your July promo.
- Opened/clicked counts (30/90 days) — "opened at least 3 campaigns in the last 30 days" for your most-engaged readers.
- Engagement score — the always-on 0–100 recency-weighted score.
Recipes
Re-engagement list: last emailed within 90 days AND last opened more than 60 days ago. VIPs: opened at least 3 campaigns in 30 days. Cool-down exclusion: add a list to "Don't send to" or a refinement of last emailed NOT within 7 days.
Which email address does a campaign use?
Any object can be an audience, and an object can have several email fields (work, personal, billing…). Each list sets an ordered email-field priority in its settings: campaigns send to the first field holding a valid address for each recipient. Fallbacks apply only when a field is empty or invalid — an unsubscribed or bounced address is never bypassed by falling back to another one.
