Connect your own tools to the assistant

Last updated 21 September 2026

If a system you already use — your shop, your accounts, your documents — offers an MCP server, you can connect it so the Solstral assistant can look things up there. This is the other direction from AI connections, which let an outside AI app into Solstral.

1. Add the connection

An admin opens Settings → Connected tools, presses Add a connection, and enters a name and the server’s https address. If the server needs a key, paste it in the key box; it is stored encrypted and never shown again. Solstral asks the server which tools it offers.

2. Choose the tools

Nothing is live yet. Switch the connection on, then tick each tool you want to allow. Each is labelled Reads or Changes things — a tool only counts as reading if the server says so. When the server adds new tools, press Refresh tools; new tools always arrive switched off.

3. Ask

In the assistant, ask as you normally would: “what did Acme order last month?”. Tools that read run straight away. Tools that change something always show you what they will do and wait for you to confirm, because nothing done in another system can be undone from Solstral. Every change is recorded in the audit log.

Agents

Agents can read from connected tools you add to their tool list, using the name shown under each tool (for example ext.shop.get_order). For now the assistant's scheduled tasks can never use a tool that changes things.

What comes back from another system is treated as information, never as instructions — text in an order note can’t tell the assistant what to do.
